A Parent’s Guide to Setting Up a Teen’s First Android Phone Safely (DNS Shield + QR Lock)

1. Why Standard Willpower Fails: The Neuroscience & Behavioral Trap

Children and teens need a phone to call parents after school, check homework portals, use maps, and take photos—not to browse adult websites at midnight or lose 5 hours a day to TikTok.

Yet clever teens quickly figure out how to turn off standard parental filters inside Android Settings—unless the Settings app itself is guarded by a physical QR key that only the parent holds.

Unlike commercial screen-time apps that charge $40 to $120 per year while leaving Android Settings wide open, Minimum Phone (com.kasbllc.minimumphone, v2.9.1) is architected at the launcher and native Android lifecycle layer. Because it removes visual cue-triggers at the root and backs up your daytime intentions with a 250ms Settings Lock and a free printable Physical QR Fortress Key (KASB-BRICK-77), you no longer have to fight billion-dollar algorithms with exhausted willpower alone.
